Giants Place Tight End Daniel Fells On Injured Reserve

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) — The New York Giants are planning to place tight end Daniel Fells on injured reserve after discovering that he has a staph infection.

The Giants announced their plans Monday.

Fells has been bothered by an ankle injury in recent weeks and missed Sunday's win over the Buffalo Bills. In evaluating the injury, it was discovered that he has a staph infection, which requires treatment.

With tight end Jerome Cunningham sidelined with a knee injury, the Giants signed Will Tye off their practice squad Saturday.

Fells has caught six passes for 60 yards in two games this season.
