Giants CB Walter Thurmond: 'I'm The Best Slot Corner In The League'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Walter Thurmond is very confident in his abilities.

And why shouldn't he be feeling good coming into the 2014 season?

The cornerback won Super Bowl XLVIII with the Seahawks in February and signed a one-year, $3.5 million deal with the Giants in March.

So how good does the 26-year-old think he is?

"I'm the best slot corner in the league, for sure," Thurmond told reporters.

That comment did not sit well with Eagles cornerback Brandon Boykin.

Thurmond believes that the Giants' secondary -- consisting of himself, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Prince Amukamara, Antrel Rolle and Stevie Brown -- can be as good as the "Legion of Boom" that tormented offenses in Seattle.

"Most definitely, if not better, in my opinion," Thurmond said. "It's just talented guys. In Seattle, we didn't have two first-rounders. We had a bunch of guys who were later-round picks, but who had first-round-caliber ability. We do have that potential. We just have to prove it this year."

Entering his fifth season in the NFL, the 5-foot-11, 190-pounder played 12 games for the Super Bowl champs in 2013. He recorded 33 combined tackles with a sack, a fumble recovery and an interception returned for a touchdown.
