Georgia Police: 14-Year-Old Kills Pizza Delivery Driver

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police have charged a 14-year-old boy and a 21-year-old man with killing a pizza delivery driver in suburban Atlanta.

Gwinnett police Cpl. Deon Washington said in an email that the boy was charged as an adult Thursday in the shooting death of 28-year-old Shane Varnadore, a Papa John's delivery driver. Police say they also charged 21-year-old Jermaine Young in the killing of the driver, who was found dead Wednesday night at a housing complex in Lawrenceville.

Washington says detectives believe Varnadore was killed during a robbery at the complex where he was making a delivery.

Teresa Vernadore, the victim's mother, told a local station that she had security concerns before the incident.

"I'd actually been bugging him to try to find a different job because of that," Varnadore said. She said her son was loved by everyone.

Young and the teenager are charged with felony murder, aggravated assault and armed robbery.

Young is being held at the Gwinnett County Detention Center. The teen was taken to the Metro Regional Youth Detention Center.
