Gear, Equipment Stolen From NYPD Baseball Team In Texas

DALLAS (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The NYPD baseball team has been forced to cancel a tournament championship game, after someone stole the team's jerseys, gloves and bats.

The team composed of New York City police officers was at a tournament in Texas, when $15,000 worth of gear and equipment was stolen from a team minivan, according to a New York Post report.

The van was parked in the lot of a Marriott Hotel, while the New York's Finest Baseball Club prepared to play the Dallas Fire-Rescue Department team, the newspaper reported.

Team manager Jose Vasquez tells the Post the police officers spent the morning filling out police reports instead of taking the field.

The NYPD team is flying back to New York on Saturday, and thus cannot reschedule the game, the newspaper reported.
