Foundation Gives Special Stroller To 7-Year-Old NJ Boy With Rare Genetic Disorder

GARFIELD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A local foundation helped a New Jersey child with a rare disorder have a life-changing day.

CBS2's Ilana Gold reports Gavin Cheski, 7, suffers from a genetic condition called 18q deletion syndrome, which affects his heart and mobility.

Let Them Be Little X2 Foundation heard about the child's story and donated a stroller to him and his family.

"It's going to help up do everyday things without getting a wheelchair for him," Robyn Cheski, Gavin's mother, told CBS2.

Bill Carroll donated thousands so Gavin could get this special stroller after hearing the story from the foundation's founder, Jeff Leider.

"He mentioned Gavin and the struggle he was having. I said, 'What do you need?' He said, 'I need $3,500.' I said, 'You got it,'" Carroll explained to CBS2.

Carroll met Gavin for the first time Sunday when he got his stroller as the foundation held a pancake breakfast event to spread awareness. Carroll even decided to make another donation to help other children with rare disorders.

"I decided today I'm going to give another $10,000. I want to help more children," Carroll told CBS2.

Leider started the foundation over one year ago.

"We try to make each day easier for these families that are dealing with these life challenges," Leider told CBS2.

The foundation has helped 20 local children with rare health problems.
