Prosecutors: Teen Tried To Set Fire To Garfield, N.J. House

GARFIELD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Prosecutors in Bergen County, New Jersey were looking late Tuesday for a teenager accused of trying to burn down a house.

Investigators said Shakyl Ivy, 18, has been charged in a warrant with aggravated arson. As of Tuesday night, he remained a fugitive.

The Bergen County Prosecutor's office alleged that around 9:20 p.m. Sunday, Ivy tried to set for to a home on Palisades Avenue in Garfield. Responding officers smelled the odor of a large amount of gasoline on and around the front door of the house when they were called to the scene, prosecutors said.

Police learned that several teens gathered outside the house next door and were being loud, and a tenant in the house asked the boys to quiet down or move on, prosecutors said.

A short time later, Ivy was heard yelling, "This is my block!" and was then seen trying to set fire to the house, prosecutors said.

There were four people inside the home at the time, including an infant child, prosecutors said.

Anyone with information on Ivy's whereabouts was asked to call Garfield police at (973) 478-8500, or the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Confidential Tips Line at (201) 226-5532.
