1 Dead In 5-Vehicle Crash On Garden State Parkway

CLARK TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- One person was killed late Wednesday in a multi-vehicle crash on the Garden State Parkway.

New Jersey State Police said the crash happened around 8 p.m. on the southbound Garden State Parkway at milepost 135.5.

One person was dead at the scene of the crash, state police said. It was not immediately learned whether there were any other injuries.

One of the five vehicles involved in the crash appeared to be a minivan.

All lanes were briefly closed in the crash. Northbound lanes reopened around 8:30 p.m., but all southbound lanes were closed until around 10 p.m., police said.

As CBS2's Valerie Castro reported, there was still a large police presence on the roadway as late as 11 p.m. New Jersey State Police were on the scene taking pictures to determine what happened.

By the 10 p.m. hour, only one left lane had reopened on the southbound side, and there was at least a five-mile delay getting through.

All lanes had reopened by 11:45 p.m.
