State Police Seek Man Who Robbed Garden State Parkway Gas Station At Gunpoint

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police in New Jersey are searching for a man who they said held up a gas station on the Garden State Parkway and got away with thousands.

The robbery occurred around 10:20 p.m. Saturday at the Monmouth rest area near milemarker 100 in Wall Township.

The man, armed with a black handgun, told the three gas station workers to get on the ground before he took their cellphones and then made them open the station's safe.

The thief then took off across the northbound lanes of the parkway and drove off in a car that had been parked on the shoulder. He remained at large on Sunday.

State police said $3,000 was stolen.

No injuries were reported in the robbery.
