Police: 12-Year-Old LI Boy Sets Garage On Fire, Charged With Arson

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A 12-year-old boy has been charged with arson after a fire ripped through a garage at a Long Island home Friday evening.

According to authorities, the boy was playing with a plumber's torch in the backyard of an acquaintance's home on Union Place in Hempstead when he set a detached garage on fire, WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported. 

The garage was fully engulfed in flames when authorities arrived, officials said.

The child, whose name is being withheld due to his age, was arrested and charged with arson 4th Degree as a juvenile.

No injuries were reported.
