Gama Droiville, 13-Year-Old Shot In East Flatbush, Sings National Anthem Before Mets-Yankees Game
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Gama Droiville, the 13-year-old Brooklyn boy who was struck in the eye by a stray bullet last month, sang the national anthem Thursday night at the Subway Series at Citi Field.
Droiville and his fellow choir members from the French Speaking Baptist Church sang "The Star Spangled Banner" before the Mets-Yankees game.
The eighth-grader was waiting for a bus with his aunt April 14 at Beverley Road and Flatbush Avenue when he heard five to seven gunshots -- one of them piercing his eye.
Police say 21-year-old Kareen Potomont fired the shots, hitting his presumed target in the leg, as well as Droiville.
Potomont has been charged with two counts each of attempted murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal use of a firearm and reckless endangerment.
Droiville has shown tremendous composure and grace since the shooting, quickly professing that his faith in God would guide him through his recovery and even indicating he will try to forgive his shooter.
