Fugitive Charged In Long Island Slaying Nabbed In Jamaica

KINGSTON, Jamaica (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Jamaican police say a man indicted for the slaying of his estranged girlfriend on Long Island has been apprehended on the Caribbean island.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force said Thursday that suspect Cleon Brown, 59, has been captured by a police fugitive team in the northern parish of Hanover.

In July, Elizabeth Hernandez was found fatally stabbed inside her home in Shirley. The mother of two had an order of protection against Brown at the time of her death. Authorities say Brown fled for Jamaica before he was indicted in October in New York for her murder.

Brown is scheduled to appear before a magistrate's court Friday. Police say extradition proceedings are expected to get under way.
