Fromm Family Pet Food Recalls Brand Of Canned Dog Food

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Fromm Family Pet Food is voluntarily recalling a brand of canned dog food because it does not contain the right amount of vitamins and minerals.

The company announced on its website that it has recalled 12-ounce cans of Gold canned dog food for containing elevated levels of vitamin D.

"The impact of the excess Vitamin D should be seen only when dogs have eaten these products as their exclusive meals for an extended period of time. We would expect to see a reduction in appetite," Fromm Family Pet Food said in a statement.

The company has not received reports of any dogs getting sick.

The company recommends pet owners not to feed their dogs any of the following:

-- 12 ounce Gold Chicken Pate Dog can case code#11893, individual can upc : 72705 11892
-- 12 ounce Gold Chicken & Duck can case code #11895, individual can upc: 72705 11894
-- 12 ounce Gold Salmon & Chicken Pate can case code #11891, individual can upc: 72705 11890

These cans were shipped to distributors from December 2015 through February 2016.

The company said cans can be returned to the place of purchase or any authorized Fromm retailer.
