Fresh Meadows Residents Say Neighborhood Has Been Taken Over By College 'Animal House'

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- The weekend's biggest movie blockbuster has some residents of one Queens neighborhood making unhappy references to life imitating art.

However, as CBS 2's Steve Langford reported, the real life complaints against what some have called frat house behavior has few people laughing.

Neighbors have complained about late night parties, noise, and the front door of the rented home, but the college students who live in the Fresh Meadows house deny it all.

"I don't know what they're talking about because there's nothing like that going on here," Douglass Francois said.

Neighbors said that the street has been taken over by something out of 'Animal House' more recent frat house movie references may be even more timely.

The number one movie in America over the weekend was 'Neighbors' the story of a young couple with a baby living next to a fraternity house.

A couple with a young baby lives next to the Queens house. The couple was reluctant to talk but said that the noise was keeping their baby up at night.

"They're afraid of these punks. That's why there hasn't been more news. That's what the neighbors will tell you right now, that they don't want to get involved," Wayne Rose said.

The college kids had some complaints of their own and called the police on a CBS 2 news team. Neighbors said that it wasn't the first time the cops have been called to the neighborhood.

"it's terrible what these kids have done to that house, the neighborhood, total disrespect for the area," Fresh Meadows Homeowners Civic Association spokesman, James Gallagher Jr. said

CBS 2 reached out to the NYPD, St. John's University, and the national organization for Sigma Alpha Mu. So far there has been no response.
