Amtrak Service Canceled Between New York Penn, New Haven Station After Freight Train Derailment
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A freight train derailed in the Bronx on Tuesday, forcing Amtrak service to be canceled in the area.
It happened around 5:50 p.m.
At least one car of the CSX train appeared to go off the tracks near the intersection of Bruckner Boulevard and East 149th Street near Hunts Point.
Overhead lines were damaged and triggered a fire when cars jumped the track.
No one was injured.
Amtrak customers were initially told to expect delays, but service was eventually canceled in both directions on the Northeast Corridor between New York and New Haven.
The company said the derailment affected their overhead catenary system. They did not say when service would be restored.
