Cops: Long Island Man Leads Police On Chase After Pointing BB Gun At Driver

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island man is accused of pointing a BB gun at another driver before crashing his car into two vehicles after refusing to stop for police, authorities said.

It all started around 10:45 p.m. Tuesday.

A 35-year-old man told police he was driving on the Southern State Parkway when another vehicle tapped his car. The man said when he got off the parkway, the other vehicle pulled up next to him and the driver pointed a gun at him, police said.

The victim tried to get away, but the other car followed and the driver again pointed the weapon at him, police said.

The victim later saw a police officer and told him what happened.

The officer spotted the car in question and tried to pull it over, but the suspect, identified as 26-year-old Daniel Longo, refused to stop, police said.

The pursuit came to an end when Longo ran through a red light and crashed into two other vehicles in Freeport around 11:35 p.m., police said.

No injuries were reported.

Police said they found a black Phantom BB 4.5 mm caliber handgun in Longo's car.

Longo, of West Babylon, is expected to be arraigned Wednesday on several charges including menacing, possession of a dangerous weapon, and reckless driving.
