The dog was near death but now is expected to make a full recovery, WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported.

Officials are looking for the man who was seen on surveillance video leaving the blue bag on the shelter doorstep in hopes of figuring out what happened to the dog.

"We know that the person did drop the dog off at the shelter, they were concerned about it and our concern is not the person that dropped it off as long as he wasn't the one that did harm the dog," Rogers said. "We want to know how the dog became injured and where the wounds came from."

The Nassau County SPCA is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Animal Cruelty Stoppers Hotline at 516-THE-SPCA.
