Francesa: Give Yankees And Mets GMs, Managers Credit For Keeping Teams In It

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- The Yankees' and Mets' general managers and managers have earned their paychecks this season by keeping their teams in the playoff hunt into September, WFAN's Mike Francesa said Tuesday.

Francesa opened his show by complimenting Yankees GM Brian Cashman, Yankees manager Joe Girardi, Mets GM Sandy Alderson and Mets manager Terry Collins on the jobs they have done.

"With the devastation that has hit the Mets, nobody could have in any way predicted that they would have no-name kids come up and do what they've done," Francesa said. "What (pitchers Seth) Lugo and (Robert) Gsellman have done is just, it's amazing."

Heading into Tuesday night's game at Cincinnati, the Mets are one game out of the second wild-card spot in the National League.

The Yankees, meanwhile, are 3½ games out in the American League chase.

"The Yankees have played as well as the Mets," Francesa said. "The problem is the Yankees are in a much tougher, competitive field and face a murderous schedule. That's the difference."
