Francesa: Jets' Season Has Crashed And Burned, So Let's See What Petty's Got
NEW YORK (WFAN) -- There's no reason for the Jets to put Ryan Fitzpatrick back under center, WFAN's Mike Francesa said Monday.
Bryce Petty made his first career start in Sunday's 9-6 home loss to the Rams. He was 19-of-32 passing for 163 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
It was neither a great nor terrible game for the second-year QB, but Francesa opened his show by making his case that the Jets have no choice but to see what Petty can do over several games.
Coach Todd Bowles said Monday he has yet to decide who will be the starting quarterback when the Jets face the Patriots after this week's bye.

"There's no way this team is going anywhere this year," Francesa said. "They're 3-7. They have six games to play, and the only thing worth looking at as this season crashes and burns is exactly what they have at quarterback. Is Petty going to be anything that they can even wrap their arms around? Do you see Hackenberg at any point in this season -- and I would think that would be the last game or two, barring an injury? But you might as well give Petty a chance here.
"This is one step. You didn't see anything that was that telling one way or the other (Sunday)."
