Items Auctioned Off After Iconic Four Seasons Restaurant Closes

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The famed Four Seasons restaurant recently closed after 57 years in business, and on Tuesday, buyers gathered to bid on the former eatery's furniture.

As WCBS 880's John Metaxas reported, dozens of bidders gathered in the same room in which many enjoyed the legendary style and cuisine of the landmark restaurant, at 99 E. 52nd St.

The gathering benefited the place that inspired the phrase "the power lunch."

The first item auctioned was the bronze "Four Seasons" sign by designer Emil Antonucci.

After the sign was claimed, there were only 629 more lots to go.

The sign went for $96,000.

Also up for auction were flatware, glasses and furniture used by celebrities and business moguls, among the $900 and up bid.

Tables from the Grill Room bar went for between $22,000 and $36,000.

A new Four Seasons is expected to open nearby.
