Former Mayor Bloomberg Reports For Jury Duty In Manhattan Assault Case

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Former Mayor Michael Bloomberg played the ordinary New Yorker as he appeared for jury duty this week in Manhattan Supreme Court.

On Tuesday, the three-term mayor joined a pool of other potential jurors in the assault trial of 55-year-old Wan Lie.

During jury selection, Bloomberg downplayed his occupation to Judge Laura Ward, saying he manages a financial information company.

Bloomberg was also asked if he knew anyone in law enforcement and about his favorite pastime. His answer: studying Spanish and hitting the golf ball.

As he left court, Bloomberg told The New York Times he was "proud to serve.''

After two days, the former mayor was dismissed because he has travel plans for the end of the week.
