Flood Watch Issued For Tri-State Area With Periods Of Heavy Rain Expected

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The National Weather Service issued a flood watch for much of the Tri-State area as heavy rain moved into the region on Saturday.

The flood watch remains in effect from late Saturday through Sunday evening.

A steady rain developed in the afternoon Saturday and forecasters said it could become heavy at times through Sunday morning. The wet weather may cause some flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.

"It looks like the rain is going to continue for the balance of the weekend," said AccuWeather Meteorologist John Feerick.

CBS 2 Meteorologist Elise Finch called the system a slow-mover, adding that it will take a while for the moisture to leave the area and scattered showers may last through Sunday night into Monday morning.

Finch said between 1 and 2 inches of rain could fall overnight into Sunday morning.

By Monday, rain totals could be between 1.9 and 3.9 inches across the Tri-State area, Finch said.

It will be blustery and chilly with periods of rain on Sunday with a high of 52 degrees.
