NJ tornado warning expires as storm wraps up around Tri-State Area

First Alert Weather: Rain moves out overnight, sun moves in on Tuesday

Monday's powerful storm triggered a severe thunderstorm warning and tornado warning for parts of New Jersey.

For more than an hour Monday night, the region saw a lot of lightning and heavy rain.

Luckily, the severe weather coverage was very limited. Both of the warnings were allowed to expire early, as the storms did not maintain their intensity for long distances.

The worst of the weather started to move out around 10 p.m., traveling east of the city toward the coast.

The rest of the night featured areas of heavy rain, but the storms continued to weaken as they entered the maritime air east.

The rain looked to exit the East End of Long Island between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Tuesday.

Rainfall totals were anticipated to range between 1-2 inches, with locally higher amounts possible.
