First Alert Forecast: Yellow Alert for severe storms, hail and downpours Monday

First Alert Weather: Monday 7/3/23 4 p.m. update

The New York Department of Environmental Conservation issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for Monday until 11 p.m. They advise people with respiratory problems along with children to limit prolonged activity or exertion outdoors.

This time, though, it has nothing to do with any Canadian wildfire smoke. This is the typical ground level ozone we deal with in/around the city on these hot and humid summer days.

The AQI will mainly be in the moderate range today, but could very briefly touch 100 at times later on (depending where/when storms occur, which would help keep it low). To check the Air Quality Index near you, CLICK HERE

After rounds of showers and severe storms across the area on Sunday, we'll see this trend continue Monday and have a Yellow Alert in place.

The storms may contain damaging winds, hail, and torrential downpours. They will gradually diminish in overnight hours, with a chance of showers lingering.

Overall, Monday will be hot and steamy with a high of 87.

The severe threat drops on July 4. There will still be a chance of storms in the afternoon, but don't expect a washout.

With a high of 89, it's looking like a hot holiday.
