Firefighters battle house fire in North Bergen, New Jersey

North Bergen fire put out, first responders searching for missing pets

NORTH BERGEN, N.J. -- A house went up in flames Tuesday morning in North Bergen, New Jersey.

Firefighters responded shortly before 10 a.m. to a home on Columbia Avenue.

Chopper 2 was over the scene, where flames and heavy smoke could be seen coming from the building.

One person was home, but firefighters helped them escape safely. Crews were still looking for a cat and dog that were also inside.

Fire officials said the house was heavily damaged, and the cause is under investigation.
