PATERSON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - The weather proved unhelpful as firefighters battled a three-alarm fire in Paterson, N.J. Thursday.

As 1010 WINS' Gary Baumgarten reported, fire officials said everyone who lived in the three-story apartment building located above a storefront on River Street has been displaced by the blaze.

"We have a large three-story, multi-use structure with heavy fire throughout the building," fire chief Michael Postorino said.

People in nearby buildings were evacuated as a precaution. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire, Baumgarten reported.

"We're just focused on trying to contain the fire to the main structure, prevent it from spreading any further. But the weather is not cooperating, so we're doing the best we can under these circumstances," Postorino said.

Fire officials said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
