8 Firefighters Injured Battling House Fire On Staten Island

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Eight firefighters were injured battling a two-alarm fire this morning on Staten Island.

Around 9 a.m., firefighters got a call from neighbors who said they saw smoke coming from the back of them home on Livermore Avenue in Westerleigh.

"There's significant damage on the first floor with minor damage on the second and into the attic. It's not inhabitable at this time," said FDNY Deputy Chief Philip Solimeo.

Three adults and two children live at the home. Thankfully, none of them were home at the time of the fire and no other injuries were reported.

Red Cross is on the scene, helping the family figure out their next move and a safe place to stay moving forward.

The cause is under investigation.
