Firefighters Called To New Jersey Home After YouTube Stunt Goes Awry

MAYWOOD, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A northern New Jersey man lit his kitchen table on fire during a stunt meant to be uploaded to YouTube, officials said.

Maywood Police Chief David Pegg said the man was trying to record a flaming cake -- fueled by lighter fluid and gasoline -- with his iPad when his wife called emergency services, The Record reported.

Police and firefighters who responded to the house on Sunday were met by an angry man who demanded they leave.

Pegg said when the man was told by a police officer to calm down and let firefighters investigate, the man started yelling at his wife for calling them in the first place.

The man "was able to extinguish most of the fire before the Fire Department arrived and felt it was unnecessary for them to even be there,'' Pegg added.

Authorities said the incident did not appear to be criminal. The fire was contained to the kitchen table.
