Fire Tears Through Passaic Furniture Store, Injuring 1

PASSAIC, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - A powerful fire tore through the roof of a furniture store in Passaic, N.J. Monday.

The two alarm fire broke out at around 1:30 p.m.

Authorities said the fire broke out in the basement of the building and spread through the walls.

The owner of the building was inside at the time and was taken to an area hospital with minor burns.

Footage from the scene showed firefighters pouring water through holes in the roof, which had all but collapsed in on the structure. The rear of the building also collapsed, officials said.

Electrical work was being done on the building at the time of the fire, officials said.
