Fire Roars On Roof Of West Village Apartment Building

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Flames engulfed the roof of a West Village apartment building late Tuesday afternoon, but fire crews quickly extinguished the blaze.

As of 5:30 p.m., flames were leaping several feet into the air, and plumes of black smoke were rising at the building at West 10th Street and Waverly Place.

But the all-hands fire was brought under control within a period of 30 seconds, as action from a fire hose put the flames out and turned the black smoke to white, Joe Biermann reported from Chopper 2.

It was not immediately learned what caused the fire, or how much damage it caused.

There were no reports of any injuries.
