Fire Leaves 1 Dead, 9 Injured In Prospect Lefferts Gardens, Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- One person was killed, and nine other people were hospitalized, in an extra-alarm fire in Prospect Lefferts Gardens, Brooklyn, Monday evening.

The FDNY was called just after 6 p.m. for the fire, which broke out on the second floor and quickly spread to the attic at 203 Fenimore St. in Brooklyn. The fire was raised to a second alarm shortly afterward, the FDNY told CBS2.

A woman was pronounced dead in the fire, police said.

Eight firefighters were hospitalized with minor injuries. Five of them were taken to NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, and three were taken to Kings County Hospital Center, officials said.

A neighbor who was not in the burning house was taken to Kings County Hospital Center as a result of minor injuries from smoke, the FDNY said.

Information on the cause of the fire was not immediately available, but police said it was not believed to be suspicious.
