Nearly 2 Dozen Hurt When Fire Extinguisher System Malfunctions At Brooklyn Gas Station

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A malfunction left behind a big mess at a Brooklyn gas station on Saturday.

The BP station's fire extinguisher system went off near the gas pumps in Canarsie.

Everything underneath the awning was coated with a white residue.

People at the pumps were also sprayed.

Nearly two dozen people were injured. Eleven were taken to a hospital and treated for minor injuries.

There was no word on what caused the system to go off.
