NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Women are making huge strides when it comes to participation in the New York City Marathon and other races.

Elizabeth Comeau is a marathoner, but it's not her claim to fame.

"I was the first in vitro baby in the United States," she told WCBS 880's Marla Diamond.

Born in 1981, she's now a mother herself.

"Right after he was born, there was kind of a media frenzy and that's when I started running.  Literally to get away," Comeau said.

Comeau is now the editor of Runner's World magazine's new website for women who are now outpacing men when it comes to participation in races.

"You know that's what we're trying to harness is this incredible drive and energy and power where it seems they kind of all meet on the road," Comeau said.
