FEMA: People Should Submit Sandy-Related Payment Review Requests By Sept. 15

TRENTON (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency on Friday said it strongly encourages people to submit their requests for reviews of Superstorm Sandy-related payments by Sept. 15.

As WCBS 880's Ginny Kosola reported, the agency said all requests will be considered regardless of when they come in.

New Jersey's congressional delegation sent a letter to FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate Thursday calling for a three-month extension.

U.S. Rep. Tom MacArthur (R-N.J.) didn't sign the letter, but a spokeswoman says that was due to a ``staff oversight'' and MacArthur supports it.

Lemaitre says FEMA has sent direct mail to 142,000 policyholders and has worked with members of Congress and advocacy groups to encourage anyone who thinks they were underpaid to have their claims reviewed.
