FDNY Honors Deputy Chief Michael Fahy With Plaque, Street Dedication
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Hundreds gathered this afternoon to honor the life and sacrifice of a fallen FDNY firefighter.
The sounds of bag pipes echoed through the streets in the Bronx as loved ones, firefighters and community members remembered Deputy Chief Michael Fahy.
The 17-year veteran lost his life two years ago today while responding to reports of a gas leak at an illegal marijuana grow house.

"In his final moments he was doing what he loved," said FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro. "His decisions made sure no one else was seriously hurt. He put himself in harms' way so that others would be protected and saved"
Fahy, 44, left behind a wife, two sons and one daughter.
At the ceremony, a plaque went up at the Bronx firehouse Fahy once called home and a street sign has been unveiled in his honor.
Two men pleaded guilty to manslaughter charges in his death and were sentenced last month.
Mayor Bill de Blasio and Nigro presided over Thursday's ceremony at Battalion 19, Engine 75 and Ladder 33 in the Bronx.
On Wednesday, the FDNY also honored Firefighter William Tolley, who fell to his death in the line of duty last spring.
