Father Of Woman Fatally Struck By Car On Staten Island Wants Answers From Police
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The father of a woman struck and killed by a car on Staten Island on Monday said police have not been forthcoming with information about the deadly crash.
Around 1:45 p.m. Monday, a 2005 Honda Accord driven by a 23-year-old man jumped a curb at Hylan Boulevard and Cleveland Avenue in Great Kills, striking two women, police said. Christal Aliotta, 31, a mother of two, was pronounced dead at Staten Island University Hospital North. A 20-year-old woman suffered minor injuries, police said.
"I still have been yet to get a police report," Aliotta's father, Ralph, told 1010 WINS' Gary Baumgarten, on Tuesday. "They're quick to print everything, but nobody's quick to come here and give me any information."
Aliotta was on her way to a doctor's appointment at the time of the incident, her father told Baumgarten.
The driver was taken into custody for allegedly driving with a suspended license and was allegedly in possession of heroin, sources told CBS 2.
Aliotta's father said he has compassion for the man who killed his daughter.
"I'm sure the guy didn't wake up knowing that he wanted to do this," he said. "He didn't wake up and say, 'I'm going to run somebody down today.' The guy had a problem."
Ralph said he now has practical concerns, such as how to pay for his daughter's funeral and how to emotionally support the children she left behind.
