Elderly Woman Dies In Overnight Fire On Upper West Side

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An 87-year-old woman died overnight in an apartment fire on the Upper West Side.

The blaze broke out just after 1 a.m. Thursday inside an apartment of a five-story building on Columbus Avenue and West 89th Street.

After firefighters put out the fire, they found the woman unconscious and unresponsive in her bed, police said. She was pronounce dead at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
