LI Man Charged With Fatally Shooting Friend Pleads Not Guilty

COPIAGUE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- An 18-year-old accused of fatally shooting his friend while the two were handling a gun inside a Long Island home pleaded not guilty in court on Saturday.

Police said Nefi Reyes, 18, pointed the handgun at his friend, Wilson Gil-Torres, also 18, when the gun discharged, Suffolk County police said.

Gil-Torres, 18, of Copiague, was rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where he was pronounced dead. 

Candles were left by the scene Saturday by those who were mourning Gil-Torres' death, WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported.

An attorney for Reyes said the incident appears to be an accident.
