Fatal Crash Causes Heavy Delays On Southbound Van Wyck Expressway

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A deadly crash caused heavy traffic delays in Queens Wednesday morning.

It happened on the southbound Van Wyck Expressway just south of Jewel Avenue.

A 2012 Acura was headed south on the Van Wyck near 73rd Avenue at an apparent high rate of speed, when it slammed into the rear of a 2005 Kenworth semi-trailer truck being driven by a 53-year-old man, police said.

The driver of the Acura – Tarik Williamson, 45, of Waterbury, Connecticut – was killed in the crash, police said.

Police are investigating.

CHECK TRAFFIC

At one point, all southbound lanes were closed between Jewel Avenue and Union Turnpike, with delays stretching beyond the Long Island Expressway.
