Woman Killed In Brooklyn House Fire

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A fire in Brooklyn claimed the life of a woman Saturday morning.

Authorities said it was around 10:15 a.m. when the fire broke out on East 52nd Street in Old Mill Basin, 1010 WINS' Mona Rivera reported.

Quintero, a neighbor, was the one who called 911.

"I just saw a bunch of smoke in my window. I saw the flames coming from that house. I ran outside, called 911," he said.

When firefighters extinguished the blaze, they found 64-year-old Alma Crosby unconscious and unresponsive. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

"Even when I called 911, it was too late for her. It was too late, you could see all the flames coming out," Quintero said.

Quintero's father, who did plumbing work for the victim, said she used a cane, had poor vision and lived alone, Rivera reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
