Fast-Moving Fire Heavily Damages Two Homes In Bayonne, New Jersey
BAYONNE, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- More than a dozen people have been displaced after a fire did major damage to two homes in Bayonne, New Jersey.
The fire broke out around 12:30 p.m., possibly starting in the basement of 12 West 34th St. before spreading to the house next door, 1010 WINS' Roger Stern reported.
"It just accelerated from there, and I mean accelerated!" said neighbor Bobby. "They've got every fire department in the area here."
Everyone home at the time of the fire was able to escape safely, Stern reported.
Bayonne Fire Chief Greg Rogers said both houses suffered extensive fire, smoke and water damage with a partial roof collapse in one of them.
"The likelihood of people re-occupying in the immediate future is very slim to none," he said.
Neighbors were saddened by the thought of those who are now left with nowhere to go.
"They lost everything they own, it's terrible," one woman told WCBS 880's Jim Smith.
No injuries were reported, though some firefighters slipped on the ice created by the water from their hoses, Stern reported.
