Long Island Nurse Honored For Saving Woman's Life Three Times

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island nurse was honored on this National Nurses Day for repeatedly saving the same woman's life.

Inside the Daleview Assisted Living Facility in Farmingdale, resident Pat Benson got emotional as she honored the center's top nurse, Daniel McCarthy.

Three times in the last few months, McCarthy saved Benson's live – including applying the Heimlich maneuver to stop her from choking on food.

McCarthy also performed CPR after the 78-year-old woman stopped breathing.

The award said, "Thank you for saving my life."

Benson, a Queens native, has lived in the skilled care nursing home for eight years. She said she expects to live many more, thanks to around the clock care.
