Fans Reflect On Life Changing Events, Music At Beatles Fest

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- They are memories that have lasted a lifetime. The Beatles arrival in New York City started a fan frenzy that some argue has never been matched. Fifty years later many fans are still just as passionate.

Beatles fans marked the moment at a fan fest on Saturday with passionate personalities and unusual artifacts, CBS 2's Lou Young reported.

"It is sort of a reunion for fans. They come every year. New people come and it's just a common love for the Beatles," Carol Lapidos said, "Everybody here loves the same thing."

Love for the band runs deep at Beatles Fest. One fan even displayed a guitar that was literally cloned from George Harrison's original right down to the nicks and scratches.

"We brought the guitar to the United States and had it CAT scanned and took the DNA from it and that's what's on display, prototype one," Joe Carducci said.

One album on-sale featured an ill-advised picture on the cover of the band in butcher's outfits among pieces of meat and life sized doll parts.

"They were different. They were always cutting edge. That time they cut themselves," memorabilia vendor Gary Heir said.

The album would go on to become a collector's item worth $35,000 a copy.

However the fest was really about common love. A love shared by two friends from either side of the Atlantic.

"I picked Anette's name out of a magazine called Beatles Monthly which was kind of an authority on the Beatles in the '60s," one fan said about her best friend.
