Family Demands Grand Jury Investigation After Bronx Incident Leaves Teen In Stitches
NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- In his first public appearance since being thrown through a glass window in the Bronx, allegedly at the hands of an NYPD sergeant, Javier Payne, 14, said nothing, but showed his 50 stitches.
"This is a difficult time for our family, and I'm very upset, and I just want justice for my brother," Javier's sister Christina said.
The Reverend Al Sharpton said that the cop overreacted when the boy and his friend mouthed off after being arrested for allegedly assaulting a man for a cigarette.
"This because he talked smart to a cop. Is this where we're living now?" Rev. Sharpton said.
As 1010 WINS' Derricke Dennis reported, the sergeant has been placed on modified desk duty, the boy and his family have called for a grand jury investigation.
