Family Continues Search For Westchester Man Missing In Mexico

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- The search is on for a missing Westchester man.

The family of world traveler and adventure blogger Harry Devert asked for help on Saturday and now his girlfriend Sarah Schiear has added her voice, CBS 2's Cindy Hsu reported.

"I know that because of how often we were talking that he would have reached out if he was able to," she said.

Schiear hasn't seen or heard from he boyfriend for weeks. He disappeared during a marathon motorcycle ride through Mexico.

"I can't even like wrap my brain around what is happening," she said.

Even more worrying is the last text message that she exchanged with Devert.

"Just got an hour-and-a-half escort out of some area. It was too dangerous for me to be. Stopping for lunch and voila internet," the message read.

That message was sent on January 25. Devert's mother said while she didn't need him to come straight home she did want to know that he was alive and okay.

"I love my son and I don't need him next to me but I need to know he's alive in the world and that he's okay," Ann Devert said.

Devert has been trying to arrange a search for Harry in Mexico but said that doing so has been difficult because of the distance.

"I'm hoping for anyone who has a connection in Mexico to that area to tell people to be on the lookout for my son. My beloved, beloved son," she said.

On Saturday, the family received a new message on Facebook in Spanish indicating that someone knew where Devert was, along with a phone number.

The family traced the number back to a volatile region in Mexico but could not get anyone to answer their calls.

"I really don't believe that he's sitting on a beach somewhere. It's just not. I wish he was," Schiear said.

Devert's mother said that at one point someone was misidentified as Harry. She has been in contact with the U.S. Embassy in Mexico and has pleaded with local government officials to step in.

"I need help from the U.S. government to pressure the Mexican government to have the federal forces looking for him," Ann said.

His friends are now trying to arrange a motorcycle crew to go down to Mexico and search for him.
