Police: Man Climbs Over Railing, Plunges Three Stories Inside World Trade Center Oculus

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – A man in his 40s was seriously hurt when he climbed over a railing and plunged three stories inside the World Trade Center Oculus transportation hub Tuesday, police said.

Chopper 2 was over the scene when the man was placed in an ambulance around 12:15 p.m. He was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue in serious condition.

Port Authority Police said the man jumped from the East staircase onto the Oculus floor.

Witness Rhonda Galbo was on her way to work at a jewelry store.

"I saw him in midair and fall on the ground," she told WCBS 880's Alex Silverman.

Spencer Russell was working at a kiosk about 50 feet away.

"He didn't move for many minutes," he said. "We are lucky to have the cops, the National Guard around to take care of incidents."

Earlier this year, a 29-year-old New Jersey woman fell about 30 feet to her death off an escalator inside the Oculus.
