Fire At New Jersey Lot Destroys At Least 20 Cars

FAIRFIELD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- At least 20 cars were destroyed in a fire at an auto auction lot in New Jersey.

The fire broke out just before 6 a.m. Thursday in Fairfield.

The lot was not open at the time of the blaze.

"It was closed and there are on duty security officers, but the property is rather big, so again, depending on what their attentions were drawn to, it could go unnoticed for a little while, until it actually turned into what it did," Fairfield Police Deputy Chief Anthony Manna said.

Crews used forklifts to try and salvage the cars that were on fire.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
