CBS 2 Exclusive: Staten Island Parents Seek Answers After Condoms Delivered To Child

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Staten Island couple has been left horrified after a package containing condoms was mailed to their 8-year-old daughter.

As CBS 2's Don Champion reported, the family received the delivery, which included two boxes of condoms, at their home Tuesday. The package was addressed to their daughter, Gianna.

"There was no explanation behind it," Christine Angelides said. "Until I get answers, I don't know what to make of it."

"The good news is she doesn't even know what they are," Angelides said. "The bad news is she would've questioned what this is."

Even more bothersome, Angelides said, is that her daughter's uncommon name is spelled correctly on the box.

When Angelides called Amazon, she said the order wasn't a mistake and, because of customer privacy, the company couldn't say who sent the condoms. Amazon said it will need a subpoena to reveal the sender and credit card information. The company suggested the mother contact local authorities.

Angelides then called police, but that only left her feeling in limbo. Even though a police officer told her the delivery could amount to harassment, Angelides said detectives closed the case without finding out who sent the order.

Angelides said she is now worried about her daughter's safety. "I'm very concerned if someone is watching her," she said.

"I didn't think that the precinct would take the report and throw it on a desk and basically close my case," Angelides added.

The NYPD has not returned a message seeking comment.

Angelides said she checked her own Amazon account and is certain no one in her house ordered the condoms.

Angelides said she's coming forward to see if other parents have intercepted similar delivieries.

"Does an 8-year-old child know what condoms are? Absolutely not," Angelides said. "  ... But the person who sent it knows the nature of what it's used for."
