Evacuation Ordered After Fire Breaks Out At PS 44 In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) - Public School 44 in the Bronx was evacuated after a fire broke out there Wednesday afternoon.

No injuries were reported, the Fire Department said.

The fire broke out at 3:17 p.m. on the third floor of the five-story Accion Academy on Prospect Avenue near East 176th Street.

The Department of Education said the fire broke out in a classroom and brought under control.

According to the department's website, Accion Academy serves about 180 students in grades 6, 7 and 8.

The site says students usually go home around 2:30 p.m. but some stay on an extended schedule until 3:07 p.m.

The school was dismissed on time, the department said.
