Eric Garner's 16-Year-Old Son Arrested In West Village Park

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The teenage son of Eric Garner was arrested Tuesday after police found him inside a Manhattan park after dark with a stolen Citi Bike, police said.

Emery Snipes, 16, was spotted inside a playground at Hudson and Gansevoort streets in the West Village, CBS2 reported.

Authorities said the officers determined the Citi Bike had been reported stolen.

Snipes was charged with criminal possession of stolen property as well as violating park rules by being there after dark. He was given a desk appearance ticket and released pending arraignment, police said.

Snipes' father, Eric Garner, died on July 17, 2014, in a controversial confrontation caught on cellphone video with police on Staten Island.

In December, a grand jury declined to indict NYPD officer involved, Daniel Pantaleo, for the apparent chokehold that the medical examiner said contributed to Garner's death and protests erupted on city streets.
