NJ Turnpike Lanes Reopen Following Emergency Repairs

BAYONNE, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Drivers faced another night of delays on the New Jersey Turnpike between Newark and Bayonne due to structural problems on the Newark Bay-Hudson County Extension.

The eastbound lanes between interchanges 14 and 14-A were closed for emergency repairs. The Turnpike Authority says the bearings on the bridge deck became over-extended causing the deck to drop several inches.

The lanes reopened shortly before 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

Earlier in the evening, drivers were forced to find alternate routes.

"I came through Jersey City," one man told 1010 WINS' Glenn Schuck. "It did save me a whole lot of time."
